Adult chewing (boredom)

All behaviour guides

Why it happens

Chewing is self-soothing and entertainment. An under-stimulated adult dog finds its own hobbies, usually your furniture.

What works

  1. Add 10 to 15 minutes of sniffing games or training daily, mental work tires more than walks.
  2. Keep 2 to 3 attractive chews in rotation so they stay novel.
  3. Confine to a dog-proofed zone when alone until habits improve.

What makes it worse

  • Do not scold discoveries hours later, dogs cannot connect it, they only learn you are scary near chewed items.
  • Do not give an old shoe as a toy, dogs cannot tell it from your new pair.

Keep this in mind

Chewing needs an outlet at every age. Redirected, it becomes free calm time instead of damage.

What owners usually need for this

  • Rotating chews
  • Food puzzle

All of these are in the Pawty Marketplace, filtered to retailers that deliver to your country.

When to get help in person

Train it, do not just read about it

Pawty also has 99 training skills in 3-minute sessions you rate 1 to 5 paws, streaks that freeze instead of reset, and a care calendar. Free. No subscription, no paywall.
