Puppy biting and mouthing

All behaviour guides

Why it happens

Puppies explore the world with their mouths and learn bite control by playing. It is not aggression.

What works

  1. Yelp or say Ouch calmly and stop play for 10 seconds, then resume. Teeth end the fun.
  2. Redirect to a tug or chew toy the moment teeth aim at skin.
  3. Give more daytime naps, overtired puppies bite most.

What makes it worse

  • Do not hold the muzzle shut or push into the mouth, it escalates the game.
  • Do not use hands as toys, ever, even when it is cute.

Keep this in mind

Nearly every puppy owner goes through the shark phase. It peaks around 3 to 5 months and fades with consistency.

What owners usually need for this

  • Tug toy
  • Rubber chew toy

All of these are in the Pawty Marketplace, filtered to retailers that deliver to your country.
