Whining at night

All behaviour guides

Why it happens

A puppy just left its litter. Night crying is separation distress, not manipulation.

What works

  1. Sleep the puppy next to your bed at first, a crate or bed within touching distance.
  2. Respond calmly to real needs, young puppies genuinely need 1 to 2 night toilet trips.
  3. Move the sleeping spot away gradually over weeks if you want distance.

What makes it worse

  • Do not leave a new puppy to cry it out alone, distress this young erodes trust.
  • No dramatic 3 a.m. play sessions, night service is calm and boring.

Keep this in mind

Most puppies settle into nights within 1 to 3 weeks. You will sleep again, this phase is short.

What owners usually need for this

  • Crate
  • Puppy bed

All of these are in the Pawty Marketplace, filtered to retailers that deliver to your country.
